Louisa Kane is currently completing her clinical psychology internship at the Seattle VA after completing her doctoral training in clinical psychology at The University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. Her work includes developing and evaluating individual and couple-based interventions for substance use disorder and co-occurring conditions (e.g., depression). Her research has focused primarily on developing and piloting a couple-based behavioral activation treatment for couples where both partners have a substance use disorder and want to engage in dual behavior change. She has received several fellowships and awards for her research including the American Psychological Foundation’s Graduate Research Scholarship and the Thomas A. Wadden Award for Distinguished Research in Behavioral Medicine and Health Psychology. She has published widely on the assessment and treatment of substance use disorder. In addition to her research, Louisa instructs and supervises psychologists in Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy for relationship distress and co-occurring psychopathology at the national and international level. She has co-led and supervised the couple’s clinic at UNC-Chapel Hill and postgraduate certification workshops teaching Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy for Depression through the National Health Service in England. She continues to train and supervise psychologists in the application of CBCT for relationship distress and co-occurring psychopathology.
